The 6 Best Portable Massage Tables — Reviews & Buying Guide

Aluminium versus hardwood, working weight, padding thickness and carry weight — how to choose a table you'll actually carry.

Massage Chair Lab · April 10, 2017 · 13 min read

Portable cream massage table opened in a bright treatment room

For a mobile therapist the table is the business. It has to hold a heavy client without a whisper of movement, fold in seconds, and still be liftable at the end of a six-appointment day.

We weighed stability against carry weight and looked closely at padding, face cradles and hardware quality.

Buying guide

Weight is two numbers

Carry weight decides whether you will still be using the table in a year. Working weight decides whether it is safe. Do not read one and ignore the other.

Set the height properly

Standing with arms at your sides, the tabletop should sit around your knuckles. Too high and you lose leverage; too low and your back pays.

Padding and upholstery

Two and a half to three inches of layered foam is the comfortable standard. Look for oil-resistant PU upholstery with CFC-free foam.

Frequently asked questions

How much working weight do I need?

Aim for at least 450 lb of rated working weight for general practice. Higher ratings also mean less flex during deep tissue work.

Aluminium or wood?

Aluminium for mobile work, wood for a room the table rarely leaves.

Conclusion

Pick the option that matches how you will actually use it — the space you have, the area that hurts and the budget you are comfortable with. Every product above earns its place for a different kind of buyer.
